Our Deck Makeover and Tips for a Great Spring Lawn!

Spring has sprung! This is my favorite time of year, the grass starts to turn green, flowers blossom and everyone is generally in a better mood.
Spring is also a great time for around the house projects! We have several projects coming up, the one I’m most excited about is our new deck.
We moved into our house back in 2008 and our deck has been in shambles since. Our backyard landscaping was put off because I didn’t want to landscape and then have a new deck put in. So with a new deck coming, we are working hard on our lawn and landscaping plans. I can’t wait to share all of the changes with you!
The last several years have done a number on our lawn. Severe droughts have made it so hard to keep up with the watering and our maple trees sucked every ounce of moisture that they could from our soil.
This year, I’m watching our grass come in and it’s a painfully slow process. Does anyone else feel like everything is coming in slow motion this year? We are noticing patches around our yard that aren’t coming in so well, specially areas around the base of our maple trees. Ugh.. those maple trees are something else.
We take pride in our yard, it’s a contest with our neighbors on who can have the best lawn and it’s just bonus that we are raising neighborhood value at the same time.

With our backyard being a big focus this year, I would replace our Maple trees with some pretty sycamores, plant some shrubbery around the sides and back of the house, build a garden and create a space that makes you want to spend more time there.
