How to Use Essential Oils to Improve Your Health | doTERRA Essential Oils
I’m a big believer in holistic medicine. Growing up my parents didn’t have health insurance for our family. My mother took my sister and me to a chiropractor regularly as a way to prevent illness. It obviously worked because we were rarely sick. When we did get sick my mother used holistic remedies to relieve our symptoms. Of course modern medicines have their place and with certain illnesses they definitely need to be used. But I’d rather put as few medicines in my family’s bodies as possible.
Gone are the days of my mother’s remedies that made us gag and cringe. Essential oils are the answer! I had heard about them from various natural parenting stores around me but had never dared to try them. I thought I would need to do a lot of reading and mixing and memorizing in order to use them. I have no idea why I thought they were so complicated.
When the offer came to review the doTERRA Family Physician Kit I was intrigued. It comes in a handy box with the different oils and their uses written printed right under the lid. It also comes with an informative audio CD to explain how to use essential oils.
When I received the doTERRA Family Physician Kit I was eager to get started but nobody was sick. I started with the Lavender Oil and put it on the bottom of the children’s feet at bedtime. We added it to our bedtime routine and it seemed to help my 2 year old relax. For the baby, I didn’t put it on his feet but I put a drop on the sheets of his crib way up above his head.
Little did I know that I would get an opportunity to try out so many more. My daughter came down with a stomach bug so I put the Digestzen Digestive Blend on her stomach to relieve the nausea. She had been throwing up every 15 minutes before I remembered to use the oil and after I applied it she slowed to getting sick hourly. It may have been coincidence but it slowed as soon as I put it on her. I soon felt queasy myself and used it on my stomach and it helped relieve the nausea significantly. I wish I had this when I was dealing with morning sickness and pregnancy heartburn.
After we went through the stomach flu with my family, we moved straight on to colds. Talk about a rough cold and flu season! I used Peppermint Essential Oil to relieve us from coughs and open up airways and ease headaches along with the Breathe Respiratory Blend. My little ones won’t take medicine without a wrestling match and blood curdling screams (it’s all very traumatic) so the ease of applying essential oils is AMAZING. I love that I’m not making my little ones feel worse by stressing them out with a syringe while naturally relieving their symptoms.
There are so many ways to use these essential oils and they address many common complaints. You can use On Guard topically or diffuse in a room to prevent sickness. Lemon Essential Oil will soothe a sore throat or put some in a spray bottle to clean counters. Melaleuca Essential Oil is very mild and great for rashes, added to your shampoo for a healthy scalp and hair, or on your feet to combat athlete’s foot. The Deep Blue Soothing Blend will relieve muscle and joint pain.
After seeing the results of the oils I mentioned, I’ve decided to look more into essential oils to prevent sickness and boost our immune systems. After a month of sickness I have a renewed desire to be more diligent with protecting our health. I have to retrain myself to go for the oils first before rummaging through the medicine cabinet, but I’m slowly learning about the power of essential oils. I’m very impressed with the variety that this kit offers and the CD gave me the information and confidence I
needed to start using the doTERRA Essential Oils to make my family healthier.
