I got my recipe for this from a cookbook many years ago. Even before the Duggars were doing it on their TV show. When I do mine I precook the meat and use seasoning of choice (garlic, onion, etc). Put the meat in a pan sprinkle some mixed vegetables over that. I usually use two flavors of soup but only half of each and put the rest in a container and freeze for next time. Mix the soups with about a third cup milk and pour evenly over the vegetables and meat. Top with cheese then the tater tots. Spray the tater tots well with vegetable spray and bake in 375 degree oven until the tots are brown. I cook mine in a pyrex dish to watch the meat on the bottom so it doesn’t get too brown. Done this way the tots get crisper and no stirring half way through. This is always a hit when I take it to gatherings, especially with kids.

Highlight everything to the bottom of the recipe. Copy. Paste to Word. Highlight different areas and Delete. Center on pictures and Cut. The end recipe will be about 1/2 page. And all us tree huggers will appreciate it.

This looks good. I bet you could switch it out with differen meats or soups.
Like ham or sausage or even smoked sausage.
My mom has a cheesy chicken broccoli dish she makes but it us only cheap if you get the boneless chicken breasts on sale.

We had something similar to this the other night but it had broccoli and cream of broccoli soup. I really didn’t like it. Maybe I will try this variation and have a little more luck!

I have never tried adding cheese before or using turkey. Since my husband will eat cheese on anything I am pretty sure that would make it great for him. Thanks for sharing

We eat the Duggar’s tater tot casserole all the time. Ive never seen your version where the meat isnt cooked before adding it to the casserole. The only difference between my version & the Duggars is I use a lot more ground beef. Weve tried several different versions.. with/without peas, with/without cheese and etc. This isnt a healthy dish but its budget friendly & kids love it!

Hi Denise!

I did email you back, just so anyone else can see if they had the same question I wanted to post my response here as well.

“When the package was opened I drained all of the juice inside into the sink and then packed the raw meat into the dish. There were no concerns or issues with grease. I used regular turkey meat (Didn’t say it was low fat) and I’m not sure what the fat content was.”

Hope this helps you or anyone else! We had the leftovers this evening and this dish was even better the next day 🙂

Did you use low fat turkey? Sounds really yummy usually you have to brown then drain the meat or you have a lot of grease. I know you are really busy but if you could email me and let me know that would be wonderful I am very curious.
