Nellie’s All-Natural Laundry Soda is Great for Cloth Diapers!
Growing up, my grandma used to line dry her towels. I never understood why she would line dry as it always seemed to make her bath towels stiff and scratchy. Now that I’m older, line drying is something my family does to save money. To make sure my son’s cloth diapers are not stiff and scratchy, I remove them from the line after drying and pop them in the dryer for just a few minutes to soften and fluff them up.
As an alternative to fluffing our clothes after line drying, we decided to try Nellie’s All-Natural Laundry Soda. Nellie’s is a hypoallergenic, simple, environmentally friendly, and concentrated formula that will makes your clothes soft, fresh and residue free.
The Nellie’s Laundry Soda bag is small and made me a little skeptical that it could wash 50 loads. After reading the instructions, it was advised to only use one scoop of soda. Even with large wash loads! The concentration of Nellie’s makes 1 scoop go a long way, in fact we have done over 30 loads of laundry and have only used half of the bag.
The results..
All of our cloth diapers, t shirts, and shorts that we line hung, came directly out of the warm sunshine soft and clean. The only exceptions were a few bamboo inserts for our cloth diapers, these needed a quick spin in the dryer. Some bamboo inserts in general just need some extra fluffing as their nature is to be a little rough.
Since receiving Nellie’s Laundry Soda, we have used the soap on all of our laundry, including my husband’s uniforms. I’m not sure how much money this has saved us by not having to run the dryer, however I’m sure this was a contribution to the small decrease we have seen in our electric bill.
Nellie’s All-Natural offers many products to help you both in the kitchen and with your laundry. Some of these products include dryer balls, laundry nuggets, automatic dish powder, and oxy brightener.

I love that part of their packaging is made from plants!
Nice to see a major corporation take charge and voluntarily make their packaging more environmentally friendly. Nice combo of sustainable and recyclable.
Sounds like something I’d love to try. Thanks for the honest review!

The first ever recyclable PET plastic beverage bottle made partially from plants.
I like the fact that it looks and feels the same as normal plastic, but it leaves a much lighter footprint.
I like that such a small bag can go such a long way! And I like your suggestion for making the cloth diapers soft by a short dryer cycle after line drying.
I’m six months along, and I plan to try Nellie’s for both cloth diapers and the rest of our clothes to save money and go green.
A 100% recyclable bottle…awesome!
This sounds great I have been line-drying every thing but my towels unless it rains for a week straight. It would be nice to see how this works!
I’m very excited to try the laundry soda. I love line drying my laundry but hate how they feels afterwards.
How cool. I thought the stiffness was always just from hang drying! Now I know that it is more than likely the soap I use!!
It is good to know they are working to change all their products to be more planet friendly:)
