St. Patrick’s Day Muddy Buddies – Puppy Chow!
St. Patrick’s Day muddy buddies are awesome! Though I can’t be trusted around a box of lucky charms, some how all of the marshmallows seem to disappear. Maybe it was the little green guy?
St. Patrick’s Day is such a fun holiday and the kids really get into all of the ways to turn food green. You could whip up a batch of these festive muddy buddies and send a little bag in your kid’s lunch box. Or even for a fun after school treat.
Ingredients
- I bag of Green Wilton Candy Melts
- 2 cups of Confectioner sugar
- 6 cups of Chex Rice Cereal
- 1 cup of marshmallows out of Lucky Charms Cereal
- ¼ teaspoon shortening (like Crisco)
Directions
Microwave Wilton candy melts in a microwave safe glass bowl for 45 seconds, then stir. Microwave for
an additional 30 seconds, and stir. Microwave for an additional 20 seconds if necessary to completely
melt the candy melts. Make sure you microwave in intervals, as you will burn the candy melts if you
cook them too long!
Remove from microwave and stir in shortening to make the candy thinner and easier to coat the rice
cereal.
Pour the Chex Rice Cereal into a gallon sized Ziplock bag and pour in the candy melts. Seal and gently
shake, rolling around the cereal so that it all coats evenly.
Pour the mixture onto a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and spread out as thinly as possible.
Sift a generous amount of confectioner sugar over the cereal. Lift up the ends of the waxed paper and
gently roll the cereal around to distribute the confectioner sugar, then lay flat and sift more powdered
sugar over the top. Repeat until you have the desired coverage.
Place entire cookie sheet with coated mix into the fridge for about five minutes, so that the candy
completed hardens and the sugar confectioner sets.
Pour into a bowl, add your marshmallows and toss gently.
