Weekly Weigh In | Week #12 | Diet Soda Is EVIL! #NSNation
This is the end of week 12 on Nutrisystem!
Let me start this off by tooting my own horn… I rocked this week!
Let me tell you something else, diet soda pop is evil! I will explain…
I’ve been telling you all for a couple of weeks now how I have cut myself down to 1 diet soda pop a day, this week was the strongest I’ve held myself to it and there were a few things that I have noticed while doing this.
This is the first week that I have not been starving! I’ve been doing some research on this new found glory and have learned that studies over the years have shown obesity and overweight patterns are higher with people who drink diet pop.
In 2005, Sharon Fowler and her colleagues from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio presented eight years of research data that explored the link between obesity risk and soft drinks. According to the WebMD summary of the study:
Fowler’s team looked at seven to eight years of data on 1,550 Mexican-American and non-Hispanic white Americans aged 25 to 64. Of the 622 study participants who were of normal weight at the beginning of the study, about a third became overweight or obese.
For regular soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
- 26% for up to 1/2 can each day
- 30.4% for 1/2 to one can each day
- 32.8% for 1 to 2 cans each day
- 47.2% for more than 2 cans each day.
For diet soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
- 36.5% for up to 1/2 can each day
- 37.5% for 1/2 to one can each day
- 54.5% for 1 to 2 cans each day
- 57.1% for more than 2 cans each day.
For each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, a person’s risk of obesity went up 41%.
There were two days this week that I had craved the diet pop, Tuesday I had two cans of diet pop and today I gave in to 3 cans. Would you know that those two days were much harder for me to stay on plan? I was craving every sweet thing in existence and though I did stay on track.. it was really hard!
So this was one of the best weeks I’ve had since starting Nutrisystem! My energy level is higher, I’m feeling better and I’m excited to keep moving forward. This diet pop thing is a revolution in my mind and I’m going to continue moving forward with 1 can or less a day to see what happens.
On to the weigh in…. I weighed in at 208 Lbs! Down another 1 Lbs this week
This is the longest losing streak I’ve had in a long time and I really feel like I’m making movement in the right direction. Can’t wait to report in to you all next week

wow you are great insipiration in losing weight. I lose it and then those 3 -5 lbs come back.
Awesome! Thank you :) I will come by and check it out
Awesome job! I’m also a nutrisystem blogger and just happened to run into your blog :) I host a Buff Mama Monday “party” every week and would love for you to link up your posts. I could use some motivation this week!
I think the people that drink diet soda do it in excess compared to those that drink regular soda. All the people I know that drink diet are almost addicted I would say. Maybe that’s why those stats are so high! Good for you for cutting back!!
WAY TO GO! I don’t drink diet but I do love my regular Dr. Pepper! But I’m down to one per day which was hard coming from “unlimited” per day. I had to “teach” myself to only drink one a day and ended up losing 25 pounds with just cutting WAY down on my pop (as I like to call it) intake. I now appreciate that “one” Dr. Pepper a lot more!
I was a Nutrisystem user. I lost like 30 lbs. but then I could afford to be on it any longer I was already putting us in debit. So needlees to say I gained it all back and have been trying to lose it all on my own since then.
Awesome! That is great. It is hard to give up pop, but once you do and go back to taking a sip you realize you were not missing a thing. At least that is how it is for me.
okay I’m gonna try it too -because I was extremely hungry yesterday and I did have a lot of diet pop. Thanks for the info.
Congratulations! You are doing great.
Good for you! Glad you did your homework on diet sodas. They really are EVIL. Water is so much better for you.
